This past Saturday, 30 January 2016 approximately 40 friends, family members and associates gathered at the Exotic Feline Breeding Compound / Feline Conservation Center in Rosamond to honor the life of Joe Maynard, who founded the EFBC/FCC in 1977. Joe dedicated his life to saving the endangered wild cats of the world. He died on Monday October 26, 2015, with his loved ones by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Due to his large influence worldwide, the family decided to hold off on a immediate memorial until travelers from around the world could travel to the EFBC Compound to pay respects by memorializing Joe’s numerous contributions worldwide.
The seriousness of the moment was lost upon one person in attendance. Reports have surfaced the Rosamond Community Services District Board Member, Olaf Landsgaard took his opportunity to give a “stump speech” highlighting his recent effort at the RCSD. Never mind the reason for the gathering. Never mind the pained souls of astonished family members as Olaf gave his speech. For this moment was all about Olaf.
Numerous eyes in the audience rolled and downtrodden heads shook in disbelief. In keeping with his reputation, Olaf was completely aloof.
In spite of Olaf’s unintentional disrespect, a memorial fund has been established in his name, donations can be sent to EFBC’s Feline Conservation Center at 3718 60th Street West, Rosamond CA 93560.
